I couldn't make this up if I tried. . .Polish couple posing for selfie in Portugal die after falling off cliff
A Polish couple in Portugal fell off the edge of a cliff while they were posing for a selfie. The couple was visiting the cliffs of Cabo da Roca with their children when they fell to their deaths, the Independent reported. The tragic accident occurred on Saturday, but emergency workers were not able to recover the bodies until Sunday because poor weather conditions impeded their search. A Spanish couple alerted authorities about what had happened after witnessing the fatal fall. The children, ages 5 and 6, are currently being cared for by Polish diplomats. Family members have been alerted and will be traveling to Portugal to deal with situation.

When Canadian teen Amanda Todd committed suicide after intimate photos of her were circulated online, the media referred to the circumstances as a case of cyberbullying. But according to a Vancouver-based women’s advocacy group, online harassment has a “hugely disproportionate impact on women and girls” and needs to be called what it is: cyber misogyny.

Federal judges slam man in extortion cases - 08/09/14
Judges in two federal cases last week ruled against an Arizona man accused of operating an Internet extortion racket that targets sex offenders across the country. Judges in Arizona and Michigan awarded default judgments to 11 plaintiffs in six states who filed lawsuits against Charles Rodrick, owner of a network of websites that used law-enforcement data to demand payments from people identified as sex offenders.

Cyberbullying: The internet’s dark side - 08/09/14
A 13-year-old girl’s science fair project to combat cyberbullying among teens secured her a spot in Google’s 15 Global Science Fair finalists. Trisha Prabhu, 13, of Illinois, created her project to test the prevalence of online bullying after making them take a minute to think twice about what they are about to post. Her theory was that younger brains are less developed than an adult’s, leading to more impulsive posting on social media.

Authorities search for man wanted on cyberstalking charges - 08/09/14
Authorities are searching for a man who allegedly threatened his family members via email on Aug. 6 and Aug. 7. According to a news release, Emerick Bultman, 48, emailed family members to tell them he intended to kill them.

Little Falls sexting investigation charges 6 teens, raises legal questions - 08/07/14
A group of a half-dozen teenagers are awaiting family court appearances this summer after police announced the results of a wide-spanning “sexting” investigation, authorities said. Allegedly connected in a tangled web of text messages, hacking, and selfies, six teens from Woodland Park, West Orange, Little Falls and Totowa – all apparently known to one another – were charged with second-degree distribution of child pornography and fourth-degree possession of child pornography, said Sgt. James Briggs, a detective with the Little Falls Police Department.

Bus firm owner charged with harassing customers - 08/06/14
The owner of a bus company that shuttles students between college campuses and the Chicago area has been charged in Lake County with Internet harassment stemming from disputes with customers who had complained about his company's services. Dennis Toeppen, 50, was arrested last month in Champaign after a former customer complained to authorities that Toeppen had posted lewd statements about him and another customer to the online forum Reddit.

Twitter Won’t Stop Harassment on Its Platform, So Its Users Are Stepping In - 08/06/14
When CNBC invited Twitter users to ask questions of Twitter CEO Dick Costolo last month, thousands of people chimed in with queries like, “Why is reporting spam easy, but reporting death and rape threats hard?” and “Why are rape threats not a violation of your ToS?” According to CNBC, more than 28 percent of the 8,464 questions submitted to the network concerned harassment and abuse on Twitter.

A Redditor discovered her husband was viciously trolling people online and refuses to stop. In a post called "I just discovered my husband of six years is a Reddit troll. I'm pregnant," posted to Reddit's r/relationship forum, user whatanasssss posted a troubling story about how she stumbled onto her husband's secret life online.

Cleveland, Ohio man wanted on local charges of cyber stalking - 08/05/14
A Cleveland, Ohio man is wanted in relation to allegations of cyber stalking and misdemeanor stalking of a woman, according to Cleveland County court documents. Sean Michael Gribble, 22, of Wilkins Way in Cleveland, has allegedly been following and harassing a woman since the beginning of July.

Liberty Township man charged after sending sexually explicit emails, police say - 08/05/14
A Liberty Township man has been charged with cyber-harassment after he sent sexually explicit emails to a Bergen County resident, authorities said. Brandon B. Kuhl, 30, emailed the victim, a Ridgewood resident, "obscene writings," pornographic images and video files depicting himself masturbating on or about Nov. 23, court records say.
