A British company is marketing the Zombie Fortification Cabin, dubbed the "world's first and only certified zombie-proof cabin." Tiger Log Cabins unveiled the Zombie Fortification Cabin, or ZFC-1, on its website for a starting price of $112,898. Delivery is free, but installation costs an additional $20,963. The basic cabin package includes barbed wire, reinforced windows, an escape hatch, a storage unit and an upper deck with a 360-degree vantage point for spotting the undead. Buyers can also obtain security cameras, riot protection gear and solar panels for extra fees. "Get yours, before they get you!" the website states.

Being pimped out online by misogynist harassers will not stop me from speaking out - 10/27/14

Earlier this year, Germaine Greer argued that women now are worse off than ever, citing the proliferation of pornography and the level of harassment and abuse directed toward women on social media as evidence. I tend to agree. For a feminist campaigner like myself, threats of violence and rape have become part of the territory. I am used to being called a bitch, or a slut. I’ve been singled out by men’s rights activist group A Voice For Men after writing a piece on the media’s bias against women.

Facebook Real-Name Policy Is Still Targeting the Wrong People in Its Reporting Equation - 10/22/14
http://allfacebook.com/real-name-policy-pagan-wrestlers_b135527
Despite posting an apology and claiming that it will “work on internal procedures,” the ripples caused by Facebook’s real-name policy spread wider and wider. More groups are being affected, and the hubbub has chummed the waters, ending in more accounts suspended in what has become a cultural cyber-war. And real-name policy is targeting the WRONG people in this reporting equation. When Facebook started cracking down on its naming policy in September, the social network stated that a single user flagged hundreds of accounts, starting the avalanche. Those accounts primarily belonged to drag queens and members of the LGTBQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community. Facebook apologized, fixed it, and everyone moved on, right? Not quite.

I couldn't make this up if I tried. . .Woman trapped in chimney dated homeowner after meeting online, he says
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-woman-chimney-trapped-20141020-story.html
A woman who was arrested after being trapped inside a chimney had met the Thousand Oaks homeowner online and dated him before he recently broke off the relationship, according to the homeowner. The man told KTLA-TV that he met 30-year-old Genoveva Nunez-Figueroa online and had gone on six dates with her. "She seemed totally cool until the first flag was her actually being on my roof two weeks ago," said the man, who did not want to be identified. Soon after, he said, he broke off the courtship. But she apparently returned to his roof again early Sunday. Ventura County firefighters worked for two hours, removing each brick in the chimney to rescue Nunez-Figueroa after she became trapped inside, fire officials said. Firefighters had to pour dish soap down the flue and spray water to grab her arms and pull her out, authorities said. She was taken to a hospital and later arrested on suspicion of unauthorized entry of a dwelling and of giving false information to a police officer, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. It is unclear why she entered the home, sheriff's officials said. While the homeowner was not there during the ordeal, he later told KTLA he hopes Nunez-Figueroa "gets help" and "stays offline." "Even if she's online, people are probably going to know who she is now, so, 'You're welcome,' " he said.

However, he said that's not a large number compared to how many students go to UCF.

http://www.takepart.com/article/2014/10/17/nasty-online-movement-has-women-feeling-unsafe-their-own-homes
The sometimes blunt misogyny of video gamesa fantasy realm where female characters have often been pigeonholed as prostitutes, helpless princesses or pinupshas been creeping into the real world as gamer women who speak up against sexism have become targets of a convoluted and controversial group called #GamerGate. Nasty tweets and messages are the unfortunate norm in some dark corners of the Internet, but this week that harassment escalated dramatically when a deadly mass shooting was threatened if prominent games critic Anita Sarkeesian gave a speech at Utah State University.

An important message to our users regarding online harassment - 10/17/14
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/an-important-message-to-our-users-regarding-online/1100-6423008/
In recent weeks, an increasingly fervent debate has raged online about video games. Some of this debate has focused on ethics in game journalism, but some of it has consisted of vicious and abhorrent attacks on individuals and groups within gaming, particularly on those calling for a more open and inclusive games industry. The GameSpot team is made up of a diverse group of passionate gamers who care deeply about the future of this medium. We have had many discussions internally over the last week about what should be said on behalf of the site staff regarding the recent events in the industry, and we felt it was important to release a short statement to make it very clear where we stand.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rev-dr-susan-brooks-thistlethwaite/the-cyber-war-on-women-an_b_5995154.html
In a perfect storm of violence against women, gun culture and video gaming culture conspired against Anita Sarkeesian, the Canadian-American feminist, media critic and blogger, and forced a cancellation of her lecture at Utah State University. This is, to me, a religious crisis because it is a struggle for the very existence of women as human beings with God-given dignity and worth, and the right to express themselves without fear of getting shot.

I’m an absolute sucker for ridiculous, trendy apps, no matter how disputable their usefulness may be. There’s something fascinating about this nightmarish cyber future we’ve built for ourselves, and I guess I like watching the world burn enough that Yik Yak appeals to me on some level.

The Age of Anonymous - 10/06/14
http://www.the-peak.ca/2014/10/the-age-of-anonymous/
The far reaching abilities of the internet have opened many doors for all of us, but they have also exposed us to a new racist, classist, homophobic, and (especially) misogynistic rhetoric that endangers the progressive ideals we’ve spent decades working towards. Now, don’t get me wrong; I think the internet has been a great tool for spreading equality, and it has certainly been an excellent platform for women and other underrepresented groups around the world to make their voices heard. But increasingly, those who share their opinions and beliefs about injustice online are often met with a series of comments meant to shame them for speaking up.

http://www.skyvalleychronicle.com/FEATURE-NEWS/CYBER-STALKER-TO-VICTIM-br-i-You-re-the-reason-that-mass-shootings-happen-I-blame-you-i-1879348
For a victim of Cyber Stalking one of the most frightening elements of the crime is not knowing when the perpetrator might move from the non-violent phase into a very violent phase as part of a transition from angry acts in the virtual world to angry action in the real world. Because the crime of Cyber Stalking is relatively new, neither mental health specialists nor law enforcement experts have a clear handle on all of the triggers that move an Internet/email/phone based stalker from months or years of non violence toward a victim or victims, to horrendous violence against a victim sometimes leading to the victim's death.

It sounds like science fiction. A lender sitting in an office who wants a payment clicks a button on a screen, and suddenly, the borrower’s car is disabled on the side of the road. “Pay now or you’ll never drive again,” is the clear message. It’s not a movie script. Car “ignition interrupt devices” are just the latest high-tech tool that debt collectors have deployed in their information war against borrowers.

http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2014/09/confronting-my-cyberbully-thirteen-years-later/380888/?single_page=true
When I was thirteen, I had a falling-out with my best friend, after which she tortured me over the Internet for the next three years. We were so close that she knew the answer to my security question, so it didn't matter if I changed my password. Over the course of three years she would periodically go in and delete all of my emails, leaving only cruel notes for me, from my own account, as the sole messages in my inbox.
