NJ cops use pepper spray on aggressive groundhog
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_odd_groundhog_pepper_spray

Police in northern New Jersey needed pepper spray to thwart a groundhog on the attack. Boonton resident Alex Scott told police the rodent chased him when he entered his garage and tried to get his truck. Police Sgt. Mike Danyo and Officer Paul Ryan said the groundhog went on the attack when they arrived.

Police said Danyo tripped and fell. His partner sprayed pepper spray into the groundhog's face, giving the officers time to snare it.

The animal was euthanized and its remains will be shipped to the state health department for rabies testing.

High on the list of Things Not To Do on the World Wide Web is "hack off 4chan," the anonymous Internet message board community that blurs the line between a low-filtered Internet sounding board and launching pad for hijinks, Rickrolls, and full-scale protests. If you surfed one of the site's gateways -- especially the notorious board for random posting, "/b/" -- you might understand why an average person could take offense to the kinds of humor, images, and messages that get posted in upwards of 150,000 to 200,000 times each day.

Lost love letter reunites couple after 16 years
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/britainspainloveoffbeat

A British man and his Spanish former sweetheart have finally married 16 years after they drifted apart, reunited by a love letter lost behind a fireplace for over a decade, reports said on Monday.

Steve Smith and Carmen Ruiz-Perez, both now 42, fell in love 17 years ago when she was a foreign exchange student in Brixham, southwest England, and got engaged after only a year together.

But their relationship ended after she moved France to run a shop in Paris.

A few years later, in a bid to rekindle their love, Smith sent a letter to her mother's home in Spain. It was placed on the mantelpiece, but slipped down behind the fireplace and was lost for over a decade.

The missing missive was only found when builders removed the fireplace during renovation work.

"When I got the letter I didn't phone Steve right away because I was so nervous," Ruiz-Perez told the Herald Express local newspaper.

"I nearly didn't phone him at all. I kept picking up the phone then putting it down again.

"But I knew I had to make the call."

When they were reunited, it was as if time had stood still, said Smith, a factory supervisor.

"When we met again it was like a film. We ran across the airport into each other's arms. We met up and fell in love all over again. Within 30 seconds of setting eyes on each other we were kissing.

"I'm just glad the letter did eventually end up where it was supposed to be," he said, after the couple married last Friday.

Having problems with DVD Drive Model #SH-W162L?

I have an Alienware computer, which is frelling fast and awesome. It was my late husband's and I decided to move files from my old computer to this one. In the process I discovered that for whatever reason, the DVD drive was not being recognized by the computer. I went into Device Manager, rolled back the driver, uninstalled the drive, reinstalled it, checked the startup settings when rebooting the computer - everything!

The drive worked fine, it opened and closed, accepted a CD or DVD, and the computer did see it, but claimed it wasn't there (if that makes sense).

I did a search on the drive, which was a TSST Corp model (which stands for Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology), did a Google search for new drivers, went to the Samsung site to download the latest drivers and still nothing worked. I even contacted Alienware for help.

I called a friend who's a local computer repair guru and he was just as stumped as me. He even sent me a zip file to rollback the latest Windows updates, thinking that may have been the problem. No go.

So this morning he was talking about doing a Windows restore. I just moved everything over to this computer and I was not happy about doing that.

So I went back to the Samsung web site, plugged in the Model #SH-162L, went through the download center section, and nothing new there popped out at me. Next was FAQs and I figured what the heck?

I started going through each Q&A and finally on Page 4, something jumped out at me:

"The CD or DVD Drive Is Not Detected After Upgrading to Windows XP."

This computer came with Windows XP, but the "drive not detected" was what was happening. So I clicked on the link.

"If the optical drive is not detected after upgrading to Windows XP, a software patch from Doug's Windows Tweaks and Tips web site may resolve the issue. The patch is available at http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm."

I figured what the heck? Downloaded the file, ran it, had to reboot and guess what? The DVD drive is working fine now.

So, if anyone has one of these drives, now you know how to fix it!

I emailed my friend and asked if he needed any part-time help at his store. I'm serious - I need work!

Drunk badger disrupts traffic
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090709/od_nm/us_germany_badger_odd
A badger in Germany got so drunk on over-ripe cherries it staggered into the middle of a road and refused to budge, police said on Wednesday.

A motorist called police near the central town of Goslar to report a dead badger on a road -- only for officers to turn up and discover the animal alive and well, but drunk.

Police discovered the nocturnal beast had eaten cherries from a nearby tree which had turned to alcohol and given the badger diarrhoea.

Having failed to scare the animal away, officers eventually chased it from the road with a broom.

Not one, but two rare orange lobsters surface
http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20090705-NEWS-907050315

They might not be red, white and blue, but two orange crustaceans at a Route 1 lobster pound are causing a stir this Fourth of July weekend.

Jeremy Mirick, co-owner of the pound at the York Fitness Center, has two orange lobsters in the tank.

The female, which earned the moniker "Orangina" when it came in on Friday, June 26, and the male, which arrived the next day and is unnamed, look as though they just emerged from a steamer pot. But they're definitely alive and kicking.

Mirick intends to keep them that way. They're not for sale among the 400 pounds of greenish-brown lobsters Mirick expects to sell this holiday weekend.
