I couldn't make this up if I tried. . .The legend is true: E.T. Atari games unearthed in NM landfill
http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2014/04/27/The-legend-is-true-ET-Atari-games-unearthed-in-NM-landfill/3661398606836/#ixzz30CHDikbM
Documentary filmmakers on Saturday finally proved the urban legend true game maker Atari dumped truckloads of failed E.T. video game cartridges in a landfill in the New Mexico desert. The haul was discovered Saturday near Alamogordo, N.M., as part of an effort by the documentarians to find truckloads of copies of the game so bad Atari had to dump its inventory in the trash. The game was created shortly after the release of Steven Spielberg's science-fiction hit, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1983. The game was expected to sell many millions of copies, but only sold about 1.5 million. Since then, an urban legend on par with Big Foot and the chupacabra has popped up, saying somewhere out there in the New Mexico desert lies all those unsold copies of the Atari 2600 game. Saturday, filmmakers discovered the legend is true. "We found something," one of the workers announced to a gathered crowd at the site. "We found an intact E.T., the video game."

Two women from Massachusetts have filed a lawsuit claiming that undergarments they purchased which were supposed to slim their bodies and melt away fat didn’t work at all. Wacoal America claimed that the iPant, “hope on a hanger,” would “reshape your lower body in 28 days with lasting results.” In addition to Wacoal, Annique Bellot and Tara Stefani have named Maidenform Brands LLC as a defendant in their class-action lawsuit. The expensive undergarments were constructed with microcapsules containing caffeine, Vitamin E, fatty acids, and other ingredients that were said to “permanently change women’s body shape and skin tone.” “It’s very unfortunate that there are companies out there that are preying on people’s insecurities with claims that may not be supportable by science,” the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Mathew Pawa, told the Boston Globe. Wacoal vice president of marketing Susan Malinowski declined to comment on the suit. “Wacoal as a company and a brand is well known for creating and delivering quality products to women,” Malinowski said. “We have a very passionate following of women who wear our brand, so it’s an important part of our reputation.”

The owner of the Gold Hard Cash jewelry store claims he has scores of more than 720 with TransUnion and Experian. “It’s extremely frustrating,” Gazarov told the New York Post. “I worked hard to get good credit to look good to lenders and this happens.”

Interesting Reaction to my True Crime Online Book

It’s always interesting to get feedback on your writing, but my newest book, True Crime Online has one chapter in it that either fascinates or disgusts people, or both! What is it, you ask? Why, the online cannibals chapter. I swear, every media outlet, especially the radio stations, ask me about that one chapter. Forget the rest of the book. They want to know how I found out about online cannibals and why.

I’ll tell you how and why: How was by researching online (duh). My publisher wanted me to come up with the most horrendous stories could find where the crime started online, then went offline. That’s how I found the first online serial killer, then a link to another site from that one pointed me to. . .an online cannibal. I was definitely curious and followed the link. I became more fascinated with the story, so pulled up more sites to get the whole story. So, the why as to writing the chapter is because it was so improbable that people wouldn’t believe it was real.

But it did really happen. Long story short – a man in Germany placed an online ad on a site similar to Craigslist looking for young, fit men who wanted to be killed and eaten. He actually got hundreds of responses, but most didn’t follow through when they found out he was serious about it. A few did take him up on an initial meeting, where he showed off his basement dungeon and some of those went so far as to let him hang them up, then draw what cuts of meat he would take from them. They didn’t return.

What’s funny is NO ONE reported him to authorities. Not one of them. Finally, a man did respond, went there for an initial visit, then came back and yep, allowed himself to be killed and eaten. The first part to go was the penis, which the German guy fried up with salt and olive oil, but it was so tough, he put it in the dogs dish (no word as to whether the dog ate it).

When he was finally caught, police took photos of the dungeon. And of course, the neighbors all said what a nice guy he was, the helped cut lawns, played with the kids, etc. Why is it that just about every serial killer appears to be a perfectly normal person to their neighbors?

When my book first came out in January of last year, I went to some libraries to do a reading and this was the chapter I read out loud. Most people thought it was disgustingly hilarious, but at the last one, one of the other authors spoke up, loudly, and said "That is enough!"

I guess it was too much for the poor woman!

But it’s the chapter I keep getting asked about, so that means my book is staying in people’s heads. Yes, maybe in a bad way, but they’re talking about it, right?

True Crime Online Newsletter - April 7, 2014

I couldn't make this up if I tried. . .Busted for drinking and driving? There's an app for that

http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2014/04/01/Busted-for-drinking-and-driving-Theres-an-app-for-that/7371396372359/#ixzz2yDFA1OtC

Although it would be preferable to never have to use it, motorists who get pulled over for drinking and driving can now rely on the "Oh Crap App" for help.

The app, which was created by an Iowa law firm, is designed to "educate the public regarding their legal rights when being investigated for a criminal offense."

The “DUI Defense App” also has “the emergency ‘Oh Crap’ button designed to be used in emergency situations where a person is being stopped or questioned by law enforcement.”

Pressing the button dispenses advice like "The less you say the better,” and also starts a voice recorder to tape any potentially incriminating conversations.

"One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking that they know their rights," Bob Rehkemper, an attorney and co-creator of the smartphone app, told KCRG. "That initial interaction is documented and is recorded so it's not a matter of what somebody remembers, or he said, she said."

Any conversations the app captures are uploaded to a secure server for later access.

The app has been downloaded about 4,000 times already and is available for both Apple and Google smartphones.

"People end up in positions, and their rights become very important to them, to their family members, to their children. That's the purpose of this app, to understand what they do, and what they don't have to do," Rehkemper said.
